Workplace Hack: Cover the Clocks to Work Quicker on Short Tasks

Breaking down large projects into smaller tasks is the best way to get through those most daunting of to-dos. But what if you’re struggling to move quickly with the smaller tasks?

Web developer at Syndio Social, Sean Gransee, finds that hiding all clocks helps him work quicker…

“Let’s think back to Parkinson’s Law: “Work expands so as to fill the time available for its completion.” The no-clocks thing works great for short tasks. When I don’t know how much time I have to complete a task, I naturally work as quickly as possible the entire time.”

While hiding the time might not be helpful with long projects (as Sean points out, what harm is a little Reddit break when your deadline isn’t for 2 weeks?), not knowing how much time you have could encourage you to work a little faster.
