Hobbies aren’t merely a way to pass the time; most people are deeply committed to their favourite hobbies and think of them as an essential part of their lives. Taking a half-hour out from your work tasks to work on a hobby helps to relieve stress and recharge your batteries. It also lets your team get to know each other as people as well as workers.
What hobbies do your colleagues enjoy? Whether it’s blogging, writing a book, knitting or scrapbooking, encourage a short “hobby time” for your team to distress doing something they love. It not only helps the soul, it helps the brain.
“Mental concentration is similar to a muscle,” says John P. Trougakos, an assistant management professor at the University of Toronto Scarborough and the Rotman School of Management in a NYT post. “It becomes fatigued after sustained use and needs a rest period before it can recover”, he explains.
So how are you resting our brain? What hobby can you bring to work?
