The ‘work phone’, that old Blackberry your boss gave you when you joined the company 2 years ago and hasn’t upgraded since, might just be a thing of a past.
As more and more of us are buying personal computers and mobile devices that suit us, it makes sense to introduce them into the workplace. A 2013 survey by GoToMeeting looked at flexible working and the implications of allowing more consumer technology in the workplace…
47% of respondents said they used their own personal devices for work purposes and 42% believe the use of personal devices in the workplace makes employees’ lives easier.
The study isn’t the first to suggest that employees might prefer working on their own phones, tablets and laptops...
BYOD, or Bring Your Own Device, is a growing trend where employers allow employees to use their personal devices for work.
Mark Coates, EMEA VP at Good Technology is an advocate of the BYOD movement...
“All in all, [BYOD] is about being innovative and helping your employees to work better… Employees want to use the devices that they are comfortable with in the workplace. They want to have the same experience at work that they have at home. People are used to using applications now, rather than browser-based solutions. By giving employees what they want, companies will ultimately benefit.”
