We know that getting motivated can be difficult. Whether you’re procrastinating, feeling deflated or just struggling to find inspiration, here are a few of our favorite quotes to help get you motivated...
“If you spend too much time thinking about a thing, you'll never get it done.” - Bruce Lee
Of course, proper planning is key to completing any project but there is such a thing as “over thinking”.
Perfectionists, who spend too much time thinking about how to do the perfect job, often end up procrastinating. Take Bruce Lee’s advice and stop thinking about that project and start doing it! You should start feeling a bit more inspired once you get stuck in.
“The way we measure productivity is flawed. People checking their BlackBerry over dinner is not the measure of productivity.” - Tim Ferriss
Author of The 4-Hour Workweek, Tim Ferriss, makes a good point about how we perceive productivity. Just because you’re constantly pouring over your phone, laptop or iPad, that doesn’t mean you are being productive.
Busy is not the same as productive. Learn to manage your time efficiently and you can get things done and still have time to wind down and relax.
“Success consists of going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm.” - Winston Churchill
We all fail at things every now and then. It happens to the best of us. However, the most productive people will realise that these failures are (usually) not the end of the world and will learn lessons that will help them to succeed in the future.
Get back up every time you make a mistake and don’t become disconnected from your goals. Your unwavering enthusiasm will keep you on the road to success.
“Never leave that till tomorrow which you can do today.” - Benjamin Franklin
This one’s pretty self explanatory. Putting things off today only results in a longer to-do list tomorrow.
Try applying the OHIO principle and get those pesky small tasks over and done with straight away. You won’t even need to add them to your to-do list.
“Genius is one percent inspiration and ninety-nine percent perspiration.” - Thomas Edison
Anyone can have a good idea but what really sets you apart is your willingness to work hard to achieve your goals.
Edison allegedly failed 1,000 times before inventing a working light bulb but his hard work and persistence are what helped him achieve his goal.
If you have a great idea, don’t just expect success to follow. You will only achieve your goals by working hard and not giving up.
“Amateurs sit and wait for inspiration, the rest of us just get up and go to work.” - Stephen King
Not feeling inspired? Don’t worry. Stephen King doesn’t believe inspiration is something you should expect to happen.
For example, if you want to write a novel like King, don’t just sit around waiting for that good idea. Instead, write a page or two every day and take charge of your own inspiration.
“You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.” - Wayne Gretzky
How will you know what’s possible if you don’t try? If you turn down opportunities, you can be sure that nothing will come of them.
Of course, you should always think about the risks involved with new opportunities, but I find that opening your mind and taking more chances pays off way more than refusing to try anything new at all.
"Whether you think you can or you think you can’t, you’re right.” - Henry Ford
If you think you can do something, there’s a very good chance you can. However, if you convince yourself that you can’t do it, you won’t be able to.
I find a bit of self belief helps me do things I wasn’t sure I could do. What’s the worst that could happen?
